The internet landscape is littered with blogs. What separates a good blog post from an ordinary, lackluster one?
Simple… It’s the content.
Blogs are all about content. That is what attracts visitors. Graphics help too. So, you should have attractive, professionally done graphics on your blog post. Use royalty free photos to spice things up on your blogs.
However, the graphics and photos are merely the gravy. The meat and potatoes is your content. It has to be informative and engaging to hook the readers by the eyeballs and keep them reading to the last word.
Writing Your Blog Posts
If you’re writing about a niche that you’re passionate about, it will help to inject your enthusiasm into the content so that your passion comes through in your content. It should be almost contagious.
If you can’t write well, you could outsource this task to a good writer to do it for you. It may cost a few dollars but this is money well-spent. Treat it as an investment. Your content will make or break your blog.
You could also ask popular bloggers in your niche to make a guest post on your blog. This will not only be a breath of fresh air in your blog but visitors from the guest blogger’s blog will drop by your blog to see what their blogger wrote. Some bloggers may do it for free while others may ask for a fee. You will need to decide if your budget allows for it.
Always remember that when writing blog posts you should keep your visitor in mind. They are looking for good, useful and high-quality content. If you’re blogging about the latest movies, they will want to read reviews that are accurate and balanced. If you praise a movie to high heaven and it turns out to be a borefest, you are going to lose credibility real quick.
Eye-catching Titles and Headlines
Make sure that your post titles and headlines are eye-catching. Most of your battles are won or lost based on your headlines alone. If your headlines are thought provoking, exciting or controversial, you can bet the visitors’ curiosity will be piqued and they will read the rest.
We live in a world that is hectic and people’s attention spans are very fleeting. Many distractions are constantly vying for our attention. It’s common to see people watching TV and at the same time looking at their smartphone and reading Facebook comments.
What does this mean to you?
It means that it’s getting increasingly difficult to retain viewer’s attention. Even on YouTube, videos that are above 4 minutes often have lower visitor retention. People just lack the patience to sit through anything that requires focus.
Content for your blog
So, your posts will have to be fun and interesting. It must captivate your visitors and make them want to return to your blog. Use anecdotes, jokes, cartoons, etc. to achieve the entertainment factor. The word here is – infotainment. Information + entertainment. That’s what your blog should strive for.
If you can create a blog that is the go to place for current information and advice about your niche and it is fun to visit, you will build a tribe of loyal followers to your blog over time and they will lap up whatever you put out. It may not be easy but it can be done. It’s crucial that you do it in order to create a sustainable income from your blog if you’re blogging for money.
